Some of you may already have heard that Russel has been covering for Robert Jaye who plays Isaachar/Baker on the Joseph tour, because Robert has broken his foot.
I went to see the tour show here in Southend last night and of course saw Russel, which was lovely. He's very well, will be with the tour, he thinks, for another 4 weeks. Was another familiar face on stage in the shape of Dan Greavey, who was covering Simeon/Butler, so that was good too.
Downside was that Andrew was off sick, with a throat/vocal problem I think. But hoping he'll be back by Wednesday when I'm going again.
Have to say I was very impressed with the tour cast - lots of energy and humour as well as good voices and dancing - and Gavin James Burke understudying as Joseph was excellent. Reminded me a bit of Lee. The staging is much smaller of course, looks a bit cramped at times, and there are no inflating sheep or cacti and only one moving stair moment. But other than that it's almost a carbon copy of the West End version. Well worth seeing if you get a chance. Oh yes, the motorbike - was a flashy black very modern machine, not a chariot of gold at all, don't know if that's usual on the tour! But Gavin looked like he enjoyed getting to ride it anyway!
By the way, if anyone who knows Russel or Andrew wants to send them a hello note, I'm happy to pass them on. Email or PM them to me by about 4pm tomorrow afternoon.
