from teamtalk Southampton midfielder Jamie Redknapp is expected to announce his retirement this week after consulting a knee specialist in America. The former England international, forced to take pain-killing injections before each game last season, was advised by renowned consultant Richard Steadman to quit the game to safeguard his future health. The latest problems in his joints have not been resolved and the injury-prone 31-year-old is reluctantly considering Steadman's advice. Midfield playmaker Redknapp, who joined Liverpool from Bournemouth for a record fee for a teenager at the time of £350,000 in 1991, made 240 appearances during his 11 years at Anfield. Redknapp, one of the most talented players of his generation, was restricted to 17 England caps and scored one goal. He moved to Tottenham in 2002 but made only 48 appearances in two-and-a-half years.

What's on in France??
Why would Jay be more like to do Anfield games?? Surely, as he now lives in London, he'll be doin the Spurs/ Arsenal/ Chelsea/ Southampton games? And even then... I mightn't see him after the games. That's not guaranteed... so I'm not more likely to see him.

Lovely Bruno's gone 2Bordeaux too I think!! How can you guarantee Jay'll be commentating for so many matches?? Have you heard it somewhere? Just found this on our official website from yesterday as i say he will commentate on nearly all our games that are on the bbc with Alan Hansen if he stays with them & if he goes to sky you will see even more of him again! Jamie Redknapp has admitted he was left with no choice but to bring his football career to an end. The former Liverpool captain has been suffering with knee problems over recent years and has now been advised by top American surgeon Dr Richard Steadman that he should quit the game. He plans to stay involved in football as a media pundit while taking the coaching badges which could see him back on the training field in years to come. He said: "I felt it was the right time to finish. When a person held in such high esteem tells you to stop playing there's only one thing you can do. You can't go against these medical men. "Now I'm going to enjoy myself. I've got the summer ahead of me and there are coaching badges to do. "I've been lucky enough to do some media work so I may have the opportunity to do that."
