Smicer in career admission news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/liverpool/3538852.stmLiverpool midfielder Vladimir Smicer has admitted he is concerned that his latest knee injury could spell the end of his footballing career. The 31-year-old will be sidelined for six months after surgery to repair ligament damage to his right knee. "You do worry about it," Smicer told the club's website. "At this age you wonder if you will play again. "The specialist said there's a 75% chance of success but that means there's a 25% chance it won't work." The Czech international aggravated the injury, which threatened to keep him out of Euro 2004, on Liverpool's pre-season tour of the United States. Now Smicer fears he will miss out on a chance to impress new Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez and win a new deal at Anfield. "It could not have been worse timing for me," said Smicer. "A new manager and the last season of my contract and I get an injury that puts me out for six months. "I am going to be on crutches for two months and hopefully it will all work out for me."
