heres a review & piccie of Stephens apperance
A surprise appearance from former Boyzone star Stephen Gately delighted audiences at Wolverhampton's Grand theatre. The Dublin born singer burst onto stage last night to rapturous applause to perform a 20 min cameo role in the hit show The Play that i wrote. Bosses have remained tight-lipped all week as to the identity of the celebs that theatregoers can expect to see in the tribute show to Morcombe and Wise, which features different stars during its run.
Stephen went down a storm with the audiences who were overjoyed to catch a glimpse of the boyband favourite at both the matinee and evening show. Although the 29 year old described his part as "Nerve wracking" he said he had enjoyed taking to the stage in the role played in the past played by Ewan McGregor, Sting and Kylie. Stephen is no stranger to acting having begun his illustrious career with a small role in the film Commitments before truly making it as a respected actor in the musicals Joseph and Chitty Chitty bang bang! He said "I have performed with Boyzone in Wolverhampton before and found the people to be lovely. I got a great reaction from them when i went on stage". "I very much enjoyed doing it despite nearly messing up on one line and having to improvise, but i dont think anyone noticed. I have been approached a couple of times about doing this but i have always been busy with other work. This time it was perfect as Chitty Chitty bang bang had just finished." It has been a exciting year for the star, who said talks at currently taking place about Chitty Chitty bang bang hitting Broadway. He is also looking forward to being back in the studio to record a album of musical hits and recently enjoyed a five-minuite comic stand up slot on the Graham Norton TV show set to be screened later this year.
