Hels & I went to see Joseph on Saturday (after some persuasion from a particular cast member, bless his heart! )
First time seeing Suzanne as Narrator - she has a nice voice but I'm not sure if such an intensive role is a bit ambitious for her just yet. She seemed to have trouble holding notes and went flat/offkey a few times. Although to her credit she kept going and didn't let it put her off. However, we were told that she had been off earlier in the week with a cold so that may have had some bearing. There have also been some 'revelations' in the tabloids about her and Darren, the truth of which could be questionnable of course, I don't know, but I should think that would be causing her some anguish and affect her performance too. Especially when it's all still new to her. She was 'papped' by photographers as she arrived and we suspect they may have been following her judging by their timing. Not fun for anyone. Good on her for showing up and getting on with things.
I can't give an opinion on Darren's performance this time around because he wasn't there, and we were told he hasn't been for two weeks. Simon was back on as Jo after all and did a grand job as always. No idea if Darren's back this week.
All I can say is, if the press reports are true, it's a shame it's happened now, particularly for Suzanne, when she had just started her first starring role in the West End, on top of everything else. But who knows what's really going on except for the people concerned. Guess time will tell and less than three weeks left of Joseph's run anyway.
I'm hoping to be there, my next and final time, for the last day/night, see it through to the very end!
